Natural spalting and a preserved live edge give this compact spalted hard maple candle centerpiece its one-of-a-kind character. Each piece is individually handcrafted in the Little Forest Studio workshop.
This centerpiece begins with a single hand-selected slab of spalted hard maple sourced from the Lancaster, Pennsylvania region. The dark lines, color variations, and intricate patterns running through the maple formed naturally within the wood, creating details that cannot be reproduced by a machine or finish.
I shape and finish the slab while preserving the natural live-edge character, then fit it with three frosted glass candle cups. At approximately 10 inches long, it is a smaller piece that can add natural hardwood character without requiring the space of a large table centerpiece.
Because the spalting, grain, and live edge are naturally formed, this is an individual handcrafted piece rather than a uniform mass-produced design.

A Small Piece With Natural Character
The defining feature of this centerpiece is the wood itself. The dark spalting lines and changing grain patterns were created naturally before the slab reached my workshop. I preserve those characteristics rather than hiding them, allowing the original piece of maple to determine much of the finished design.
Its compact size works well on a nightstand, bathroom vanity, windowsill, coffee table, mantel, console, or shelf.
